One of our Directors Lene Ringman has become the first Danish citizen to become a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers. She has also been granted the Freedom of the City of London. Becoming a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers is seen as a mark of distinction within the world of optics.
Lene said: ‘After a period of being a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) it was a great honour to be accepted as a Liveryman, especially as I am the first Dane to be admitted into the almost 400-years old guild. To meet the entire Court of the WCSM and swear your loyalty was overwhelming and I am looking forward to serving the Company with my 30+ years of optical experience.
‘To be granted the Freedom of the City of London was also a very special experience. You really feel the centuries of history and tradition when you read the declaration and promise to be obedient to the Queen and the Mayor. After the ceremony, the Chamberlain’s assistant shared some very interesting historical information and made a special effort to choose anecdotes relating to Denmark, which made it very personal.’
Jonathan David, Co-Director said: ‘The WCSM is the oldest existing optical body in the world, founded by Royal Charter in 1629. Its purpose is the same now as it was then: to support ‘better vision for all’. Affinity Optical supports this ethos through its responsible, ethical and sustainable approach to the optics business, whilst living its value of treating people as we would wish to be treated ourselves.
‘Everyone at Affinity Optical is extremely proud that Lene as a registered Danish optometrist, and a practitioner of many years standing, is the very first Dane to become a member of the WCSM. As a new start-up company, Affinity Optical brings together a team with many years of global experience of working in optometry who are also proud members of the WCSM.’
